Grand Junction, CO – Another surge of tropical moisture is moving into southern Colorado, bringing widespread rain and thunderstorms through Tuesday and renewing flooding concerns across the San Juan Mountains and southern valleys, according to the US National Weather Service Grand Junction.
The rainfall is linked to the remnants of Tropical System Raymond, which is expected to drop 0.5 to 1.5 inches of rain, with locally heavier amounts over the San Juans. The Flood Watch remains in effect through noon Tuesday, while an Areal Flood Warning is in place near Vallecito and a Flood Warning continues for the San Juan River at Pagosa Springs.
Forecasters warn that saturated soils, steep terrain, and repeated rounds of rain could trigger flash flooding, mudslides, and debris flows, particularly in canyon areas and low-lying valleys. Occasional gusty winds, lightning, and small hail may accompany stronger storms.
Travelers and residents are urged to stay alert for changing conditions, avoid flooded roads and creeks, and have multiple ways to receive weather alerts overnight.
