Grand Junction, CO – Fire danger is rising sharply across western Colorado and eastern Utah as a Fire Weather Watch remains in effect through Monday evening, with high temperatures nearing 100°F and winds gusting up to 30 mph. Any spark could lead to fast-moving wildfires, especially in Mesa, Routt, and Rio Blanco Counties.

According to the National Weather Service in Grand Junction, critical fire weather conditions will stretch across multiple zones—200 through 203 and 290 through 292 in Colorado, and 485 through 490 in eastern Utah. Humidity levels are expected to drop as low as 4 percent, fueling a volatile mix of dry brush and high heat.

Areas from Paradox Valley to the White River and Book Cliffs will feel the brunt of the conditions. Grand Junction, Meeker, and Rifle could all see dangerously dry air and winds strong enough to quickly spread flames. Outdoor burning is strongly discouraged.

Residents are urged to avoid using equipment that creates sparks, properly discard cigarettes, and secure trailer chains that could scrape and ignite dry grasses. Conditions may warrant a Red Flag Warning if winds intensify.

This Fire Weather Watch remains active until 9 p.m. Monday. Stay alert for updates and new advisories.
