Grand Junction, CO – A second round of freezing temperatures is set to hit western Colorado and eastern Utah late Friday night, putting crops and outdoor plumbing at renewed risk after a cold start to Friday.
According to the National Weather Service in Grand Junction, a Freeze Warning remains in effect until 10 a.m. Friday, with temperatures dropping below 32°F across much of the region. A Freeze Watch then takes effect late Friday night through Saturday morning, signaling another round of subfreezing conditions .
Cities including Grand Junction, Montrose, Durango, and Cortez will see temperatures fall quickly again after sunset Friday. In Utah, Moab and areas near the Uinta Basin also face freezing conditions overnight into early Saturday.
Agricultural areas in the Grand Valley, Uncompahgre Valley, and Four Corners region remain especially vulnerable, with frost capable of damaging early-season crops, vineyards, and gardens. Exposed pipes and irrigation systems could also freeze.
Residents should cover plants, bring sensitive vegetation indoors, and insulate outdoor plumbing ahead of Friday night. Another cold morning is expected Saturday, and additional alerts may follow if freezing conditions persist.
