Grand Junction, Colorado – Dry and unusually mild conditions are settling over western Colorado today, but increasing winds could quickly turn conditions dangerous by Saturday afternoon.

According to the National Weather Service in Grand Junction, temperatures Friday will run about 10 degrees cooler than Thursday but still remain roughly 15 degrees above normal. Highs across the region, including Grand Junction, Montrose, and Delta, will climb into the 70s under mostly dry skies.

While winds remain lighter today, the weather changes heading into Saturday. Stronger winds are expected to develop, especially across northwest Colorado, where conditions may approach critical fire weather thresholds. Low humidity combined with dry fuels means any spark could spread rapidly.

Communities along the I-70 corridor and across the Western Slope should remain alert, particularly in open and brush-heavy areas. Outdoor burning is discouraged, and residents should secure equipment that could create sparks.

The warm, dry pattern holds through the weekend, but a shift is expected early next week as cooler and more unsettled weather begins to move into the region.

Fire weather concerns will be highest Saturday afternoon into the evening, with additional advisories possible if winds strengthen further.
