Grand Junction, Colorado – A mix of valley rain and snow, along with moderate mountain snow, is expected today and tonight, as a colder air mass settles in behind the precipitation.
According to the National Weather Service Grand Junction, snow levels are forecast to range from 6000 to 8000 feet in the mountains, with moderate snow continuing into the evening before tapering off overnight. Winter weather advisories and warnings remain in effect for many mountain corridors, where winter driving conditions are expected, especially later in the day.
While valley areas will experience rain and snow mix today, snow is expected to accumulate in higher elevations, with 1 to 3 inches possible in some areas, particularly above 6000 feet. Snowfall will be moderate in intensity, but still enough to create slippery roads and reduced visibility.
The valley areas and lower elevations will cool significantly later in the day, transitioning into a colder Friday with temperatures approaching more seasonable levels.
As the storm winds down tonight, travelers are advised to be cautious, especially when heading into mountainous areas, where snow and ice could affect road conditions.
