GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. – Another active day of storms is unfolding across western and central Colorado, where showers and thunderstorms are expected to build through Thursday afternoon and evening, bringing lightning, hail, and the risk of flash flooding.
According to the National Weather Service in Grand Junction, the most widespread storm activity will shift north into central and northern Colorado, where heavy downpours could trigger flooding over burn scars and low-lying areas. Gusty winds are also possible, with the chance of hail adding to travel hazards.
Communities along the I-70 corridor, including Glenwood Springs, Vail, and Eagle, could see intense rainfall that makes travel difficult at times. Emergency officials warn that recent burn scars remain highly vulnerable to debris flows if storms stall overhead. Residents in these areas should be ready to move to higher ground if water rises quickly.
Another round of showers and thunderstorms is expected Friday before drier, warmer air settles in this weekend. Outdoor plans Saturday and Sunday look more favorable once storms move out.
