Grand Junction, CO – A crisp, clear start to the week greets western Colorado this Sunday, but residents should keep an eye on the horizon. After two warm, sunny days, a developing system midweek could bring the area’s first meaningful taste of late-fall weather.

According to the National Weather Service in Grand Junction, highs will hold in the upper 60s and low 70s through Tuesday under mostly sunny skies. Winds remain light, and travel along I-70 and U.S. 50 should stay smooth through early Tuesday. However, forecasters say changes begin to build by Wednesday night as cooler air pushes in from the northwest.

Rain chances rise late Wednesday into Thursday, with the first potential for light showers across Mesa County and higher terrain west of Rifle. The system could drop temperatures by more than 10 degrees by Thursday afternoon. While snow isn’t expected in town, early signs suggest the first flurries of the season could appear along higher ridges near the Colorado–Utah line.

Residents planning outdoor work or late-season cleanup should take advantage of the next two dry days. Winds may pick up Wednesday ahead of the change, and slick roads could follow Thursday morning in elevated passes.

By Friday, sunshine returns with highs near 80 — a brief warm rebound before another cool-down looks likely next weekend.
