Grand Junction, CO – Widespread showers and thunderstorms are expected across western Colorado today as an approaching low-pressure system increases atmospheric moisture. The National Weather Service in Grand Junction issued the update Sunday morning, warning residents to prepare for stormy conditions throughout the day.

According to the National Weather Service, the system will bring more widespread coverage of rain and thunderstorms compared to earlier in the week. Some storms may produce strong winds and heavy rainfall, which could create localized flooding in low-lying areas.

Cloud cover is also expected to keep daytime high temperatures cooler than normal, hovering just a few degrees below seasonal averages. Precipitation chances across the region range from 40% to 80%, with the highest likelihood in central and western counties.

Motorists are advised to use caution on highways as sudden downpours could reduce visibility and create slick driving conditions. Residents in flood-prone areas should remain alert in case of heavy rainfall.

The storm system is forecast to continue moving through the region into the evening hours, with conditions expected to gradually improve early in the week.
