Grand Junction, Colorado – Unseasonably warm and unsettled weather is expected across western Colorado’s West Slope on Christmas Day, with rain showers in lower elevations and accumulating snow limited to higher mountain terrain.

According to the National Weather Service in Grand Junction, well-above-normal temperatures will continue across the region, accompanied by breezy southwest winds. Moisture associated with an atmospheric river is expected to bring scattered rain showers and the potential for a few thunderstorms during the day.

Forecasters say measurable snowfall is expected above 10,000 feet, affecting most mountain groups. Lower elevations are expected to remain warm enough for precipitation to fall primarily as rain.

Skies are expected to remain mostly cloudy, with wet road conditions possible in areas that receive rain showers. Winds may be gusty at times, particularly across exposed terrain.

The National Weather Service advises travelers and outdoor recreationists in the mountains to remain alert for changing conditions, especially at higher elevations where snow-covered roads and reduced visibility may develop.
