Grand Junction, CO – Residents across western Colorado and eastern Utah are bracing for a shift in weather patterns this weekend, as a cold front brings wind, storms, and cooler conditions.

According to the National Weather Service in Grand Junction, high pressure will dominate Thursday, keeping skies sunny with highs in the mid-80s—about 5 to 10 degrees above normal. Winds will increase this afternoon, with gusts of 25–35 mph possible.

By Friday afternoon and evening, the weather service says a system will bring scattered showers and thunderstorms across the region. Winds could gust up to 45 mph in some valleys, raising concerns for drivers, outdoor workers, and those with weekend plans.

The strongest impacts are expected Friday night through Saturday, when widespread rain and thunderstorms may develop. “The highest elevations could see some snow,” forecasters noted in the hazardous weather outlook. Precipitation chances peak at 70 percent Saturday, with highs dropping into the lower 70s in Grand Junction.

More seasonable fall weather is expected early next week, with highs returning to the mid-70s and mostly sunny skies by Monday.

The outlook covers northwest Colorado, southwest Colorado, west-central Colorado, and adjacent parts of eastern Utah. Spotter activation is not expected at this time, according to the NWS.
