COLORADO — Low clouds hang heavy over the Grand Valley this morning as snow flurries drift across Grand Junction, turning quiet streets into early hints of winter. With temperatures near 28°F and a breeze from the southeast, roads may stay slick through the morning commute.

The National Weather Service in Grand Junction says a weak winter system is sliding south across western Colorado today, bringing light snow showers through the afternoon. A 40% chance of snow continues through midday before tapering this evening. While accumulations under a half inch are expected, the cold air and steady winds could create patchy slick spots along I-70 from Fruita to Rifle and over the Grand Mesa foothills.

Snow showers may linger near higher passes through Wednesday morning, followed by gradual clearing and calmer winds. Wednesday’s high will reach near 42°F, with lows dropping sharply to 18°F under mostly clear skies. Temperatures will stay below normal through the rest of the week, though conditions improve with sunny afternoons returning by Thursday.

Looking ahead, another weak system could brush the high country late Saturday, but most of western Colorado remains dry and cool heading into the weekend. Residents are urged to drive cautiously, especially during early-morning and late-evening hours when black ice may form.

Five-Day Grand Junction Outlook:

  • Tuesday: Cloudy, 40% snow chance, high 37°F, low 27°F.
