Grand Junction, Colorado – Snow showers are expected to impact western Colorado Friday night through Sunday, with the greatest accumulations occurring in the mountains above 8,000 feet, before snow spreads into lower valleys later in the weekend.

According to the National Weather Service in Grand Junction, snowfall will begin in the higher terrain Friday night and continue through Sunday, with several inches of accumulation likely across mountain areas. Forecast maps indicate 4 to 10 inches of snow possible in portions of the central and southern Colorado mountains, with locally higher amounts in favored locations.

Snow is expected to move into valley locations later Saturday into Sunday, including areas near Grand Junction, as colder air filters into the region. While valley accumulations are expected to be lighter, even minor snowfall could create slick roads, particularly during early morning and overnight hours.

The Weather Service notes that travel may become difficult at times, especially on mountain passes and higher-elevation roadways. Periods of reduced visibility and snow-covered roads are likely in heavier snow showers, particularly Saturday night and Sunday morning.

In addition to snowfall, chilly temperatures are expected to settle in by Sunday and continue into Monday. Colder air will help maintain snowpack in higher elevations and may allow snow to linger on shaded or untreated roads.

Drivers traveling through the mountains are encouraged to check road conditions before departing, allow extra travel time, and be prepared for winter driving conditions. Sudden changes in elevation may result in rapidly changing weather and road conditions.

Snow activity is expected to gradually taper late Sunday as the system moves east, though lingering impacts may persist into early next week. Residents are advised to monitor updated forecasts as snowfall timing and amounts may vary by location.
