Grand Junction, CO – Widespread showers and thunderstorms are sweeping through western Colorado this morning, bringing gusty southwest winds, lightning, and periods of heavy rain, according to the National Weather Service in Grand Junction.

Forecasters say the system will move from southwest to northeast through the afternoon, with conditions improving rapidly by evening. A Wind Advisory remains in effect from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. for lower valleys near the Four Corners region, where southwest winds are expected to gust between 30 and 40 mph, with locally stronger gusts possible.

The unsettled weather will lead to significantly cooler temperatures, dropping 10 to 15 degrees below Saturday’s highs and roughly five degrees under early October averages. Travelers and outdoor workers are urged to secure loose items and prepare for brief but intense showers and reduced visibility on area highways.

Conditions are expected to clear by tonight, bringing calmer weather into Sunday and the start of next week.
