Grand Junction, CO – Unseasonably warm temperatures will continue across the Grand Junction area today before a storm system brings cooler weather and snow later this week.
According to the National Weather Service in Grand Junction, high temperatures today are expected to reach the upper 40s to near 50 degrees, well above seasonal averages for late January. Similar mild conditions are forecast to persist through Thursday, especially in valley locations.
Forecasters said gusty winds are possible this afternoon, particularly across higher terrain and exposed areas. While travel impacts are expected to remain limited today, drivers of high-profile vehicles may notice difficult conditions along open stretches of road.
A storm system arriving Friday is expected to shift conditions quickly. The National Weather Service says the system will bring mountain snow, valley rain, and a noticeable drop in temperatures across western Colorado. Snow-covered roads and reduced visibility are possible in higher elevations.
Travel on Interstate 70, especially through mountain passes east of Grand Junction, could be affected as snow develops. Motorists heading into the high country Friday should be prepared for winter driving conditions.
While today’s warmth may feel spring-like, officials urge residents to prepare for rapidly changing weather by the end of the week. Commuters, outdoor workers, and travelers should monitor forecast updates as timing and snow impacts become clearer.
