Grand Junction, CO — The National Weather Service Grand Junction is forecasting mountain snow through early afternoon Wednesday, with accumulations of 3–6 inches possible along the northern Divide mountains, especially above 9,000 feet.

The snowfall is being fueled by increased Pacific moisture combined with strong westerly winds, resulting in periods of blowing snow and reduced visibility on high-elevation roadways. Drivers can expect slick conditions along key routes, including U.S. 40 over Rabbit Ears Pass, Colorado Highway 139, and portions of Interstate 70 near Vail Pass.

“Travel across the northern mountain passes will be difficult at times due to blowing snow and icy stretches,” forecasters said. “Visibility may be reduced to less than a quarter mile in spots.”

The storm is expected to taper off by late afternoon, but lingering flurries and gusty winds could persist into the evening hours. Snow totals will decrease sharply below 8,000 feet, where roads should remain mostly wet.

Elsewhere across western Colorado, including Grand Junction, conditions will remain dry and partly cloudy, with temperatures running 10 to 15 degrees above seasonal averages. Afternoon highs will range from the mid-50s to low 60s, offering mild relief from the winter chill.

Drivers heading over the passes are advised to carry traction devices and check COTrip.org for the latest road updates.

Looking ahead, forecasters expect a return to quieter weather Thursday, with another weak disturbance potentially brushing the high country late Friday.
