Grand Junction, Colo. – Thunderstorms are once again taking aim at western Colorado Saturday, with the heaviest activity expected north of Interstate 70 where moisture remains most abundant. Residents can expect downpours, frequent lightning, and gusty winds through the afternoon and evening.
According to the National Weather Service in Grand Junction, showers will favor areas along and north of I-70, including Rifle, Glenwood Springs, and Eagle. Any thunderstorm could produce heavy rainfall and strong outflow winds, creating difficult travel conditions and the risk of sudden localized flooding.
Highway drivers on I-70 should be alert for reduced visibility and slick roads, especially on mountain passes. Power outages are also possible in stronger cells due to lightning and gusty winds. Officials urge residents to move indoors at the first sound of thunder and avoid outdoor activities during storms.
Temperatures will stay near seasonal norms today before a warmer, drier pattern begins to build Monday, bringing a break from the daily storm cycle.
