Grand Forks, North Dakota – Wildfire smoke remains locked over the Red River Valley, pushing air quality into unhealthy levels through Saturday, with public health risks across eastern North Dakota and western Minnesota.
According to the National Weather Service in Grand Forks, dense smoke from wildfires in Canada will continue to impact visibility and respiratory health through at least Saturday evening. AQI values may enter the “red” zone during peak hours.
The worst impacts are expected across Grand Forks, Fargo, and Devils Lake. Residents are urged to stay indoors, keep windows shut, and avoid strenuous outdoor activity.
While skies may appear calm, prolonged exposure can aggravate asthma and other conditions. Children and older adults are particularly vulnerable.
Cleaner air is possible by Sunday as winds shift, but sensitive groups should remain cautious into early next week.
