Grand Forks, North Dakota – Snow is already spreading across eastern North Dakota this morning, and roads could turn slushy and slick by midday as accumulation begins to build.
According to the National Weather Service in Grand Forks, this first round of snow will continue through the day, with totals generally ranging from 1 to 4 inches across the Red River Valley and into northwest Minnesota. Areas near Grand Forks, Fargo, and into Bemidji could see localized totals closer to 3 to 4 inches before snow tapers off later this evening.
Temperatures hovering between 30 and 35 degrees will limit accumulation on some roadways during the day, but grassy surfaces and untreated roads will see the most buildup. As temperatures drop later today, conditions may worsen, especially during the evening commute.
Visibility could also be reduced at times in heavier bursts, particularly along I-29 and U.S. Highway 2, where drivers may encounter rapidly changing road conditions.
Residents should plan for slower travel, allow extra time, and stay alert for slick spots. Snow is expected to taper off later tonight, but a stronger system is already expected to arrive Friday into Saturday, bringing heavier impacts and additional advisories.
