Grand Forks, ND – A strong Alberta Clipper is forecast to move through the region Tuesday into Tuesday night, bringing the potential for accumulating snow and gusty winds, according to the National Weather Service (NWS) in Grand Forks.
Forecasters say there is a 70% chance the system will produce at least minor winter weather impacts across much of eastern North Dakota and northwestern Minnesota. Light to moderate snowfall is likely across the area, with mixed precipitation possible in parts of southeastern North Dakota and west-central Minnesota.
However, uncertainty remains around the storm’s track — a key factor in determining who sees the heaviest snowfall versus a wintry mix. The NWS also noted that wind strength on the backside of the system could impact visibility and travel conditions if snow continues falling into Tuesday night.
Residents are encouraged to monitor forecasts closely as updated models clarify the system’s path. Travel impacts could develop quickly depending on snow intensity and wind gusts. The NWS recommends staying alert to future advisories and potential winter weather alerts early next week.
