Grand Forks, North Dakota – Snow chances and gusty winds this week may affect travel along I-29 and US-2, according to the National Weather Service in Grand Forks.

According to the National Weather Service, snow chances return Tuesday, particularly during the late afternoon into evening hours. Forecast guidance indicates light snow is possible, with minimal accumulation expected at this time. Winds on Tuesday are forecast to remain relatively light, which may limit travel impacts during the initial snow period.

By Wednesday, conditions are expected to turn breezy, especially late in the day, with partly to mostly cloudy skies across eastern North Dakota and northwest Minnesota. Morning low temperatures are forecast to range from 0 to 15 degrees, with afternoon highs climbing into the 20s and lower 30s.

Thursday brings a notable shift, with above-average temperatures forecast across the region. Highs are expected to reach the 30s to near 40 degrees, including areas along US-2 and surrounding communities. Despite the warmer temperatures, the National Weather Service notes a renewed chance for snow late Thursday, accompanied by gusty north winds. These conditions may lead to areas of blowing snow, particularly in open, rural areas and along north–south roadways such as I-29.

By Friday, temperatures are expected to decrease throughout the day, with gusty north winds continuing. Additional snow is possible, and blowing snow could again reduce visibility at times, especially for drivers during early morning and evening travel periods.

Residents and commuters are encouraged to monitor updated forecasts throughout the week, as small changes in snowfall or wind speed could increase localized travel impacts. This pattern may be especially relevant for students, young workers, and daily commuters traveling between Grand Forks, East Grand Forks, and surrounding highway corridors.
