Grand Forks, North Dakota – Two weak weather systems are expected to move through eastern North Dakota and northwest Minnesota this weekend, bringing light snow tonight and a potential wintry mix by Sunday afternoon.

According to the National Weather Service in Grand Forks, the first system will pass through Friday night into early Saturday, producing mostly light snow. Forecast amounts are expected to remain minimal, generally ranging from a trace to around one-half inch.

A second system is forecast to arrive Sunday. While snow is expected initially, forecasters say precipitation may transition to a wintry mix of snow and freezing drizzle by Sunday afternoon. Any ice accumulation is expected to be light, but even small amounts could lead to slick spots on untreated roads.

Probability forecasts indicate the highest chances for precipitation will occur Friday night into early Saturday and again Sunday afternoon, with most locations seeing chances between 20 and 40 percent during peak periods.

Communities including Grand Forks, Fargo, Grafton, Devils Lake, and Thief River Falls may see periods of light precipitation, though impacts are expected to remain limited due to low totals.

The National Weather Service emphasized that while no significant winter storm is expected, drivers should remain alert for changing road conditions, particularly Sunday afternoon when freezing drizzle may develop.

The timing may be most noticeable for weekend travelers and Sunday afternoon commuters as the second system moves through.
