Grand Forks, North Dakota – Gusty winds and lingering light snow are expected to affect the Grand Forks area today, followed by fluctuating temperatures and additional chances for mixed precipitation heading into next week.
According to the National Weather Service in Grand Forks, light snow will linger this morning, mainly across northwest Minnesota, before gradually tapering off. Behind the system, north-northwest winds will increase, with sustained speeds of 12 to 25 mph and gusts reaching up to 35 mph, strongest in the Red River Valley.
Despite the wind, temperatures today will remain cold, with highs ranging from 8 to 18 degrees, keeping wind chills firmly in the single digits and teens at times. Blowing snow may briefly reduce visibility in open rural areas, though widespread travel disruptions are not expected.
Looking ahead to Sunday, skies will turn mostly cloudy, with a 20% chance of a wintry mix mainly near the Lake of the Woods region. Morning lows are forecast between -7 and +3 degrees, while afternoon highs climb into the mid-20s to lower 30s. Winds will shift to the west-southwest at 12 to 25 mph, keeping conditions breezy.
A modest warm-up arrives Monday, with partly sunny skies, southwest winds of 10 to 20 mph, and highs reaching the low to upper 30s. By Monday night into Tuesday, another system may bring a chance for light rain or a wintry mix, with overnight lows in the upper 20s to mid-30s and highs Tuesday in the mid-30s to low 40s.
The National Weather Service notes that precipitation type next week will depend on surface and upper-level temperatures, which remain uncertain at this time.
This forecast may be especially relevant for commuters, agricultural operations, and travelers across the Grand Forks area due to strong winds and changing road conditions.
