GRAND FORKS, N.D. – Residents across northeast North Dakota and northwest Minnesota are bracing for their first major freeze of the season as a Freeze Watch goes into effect Tuesday evening through Wednesday morning. Temperatures could fall as low as 25 degrees, threatening crops and tender vegetation across the region.

According to the National Weather Service in Grand Forks, a Frost Advisory begins at midnight and continues through early Tuesday, followed by the Freeze Watch that extends into Wednesday morning. The advisory includes counties such as Grand Forks, Steele, Traill, Polk, Roseau, and Lake of the Woods.

Officials warn that frost and freezing conditions may kill unprotected plants and damage late-season crops. Homeowners are urged to cover outdoor vegetation and disconnect garden hoses before temperatures plummet.

Cold air will linger midweek, keeping morning lows below freezing across much of the northern Red River Valley. Additional frost advisories could be issued if clear skies persist into Thursday.

Residents should prepare now, as freeze warnings may replace the current watch by Tuesday evening.
