Grand Forks, N.D. – Light snow across northwest Minnesota is tapering off Saturday morning, offering a brief break before another round of winter weather threatens travel by Sunday. Roads that were slick early Saturday are expected to gradually improve, but conditions may change quickly as the weekend continues.
According to the National Weather Service in Grand Forks, a wintry mix is expected to develop across northwest Minnesota beginning Sunday morning. Most areas could see a trace up to 1 inch of snow or sleet, along with a light glaze of freezing rain that may reach a few hundredths of an inch, particularly in northern counties.
Cities including Bemidji, Roseau, Warroad, Wadena, and Baudette could see periods of light precipitation Sunday, with the highest chances during the morning and midday hours. Even minimal ice accumulation may be enough to create slick bridges, untreated roads, and parking lots. Travelers along Highway 2, Highway 59, and rural county roads should plan for changing conditions.
Residents are urged to slow down on icy surfaces, allow extra travel time, and ensure vehicles are stocked with winter safety supplies. Crews may need time to treat roads if freezing rain develops.
The wintry mix is expected to remain light, but additional advisories could be issued if ice coverage expands. Drivers and residents should monitor updates through Sunday as conditions evolve.
