Grand Forks, ND – Strong northwest winds are expected to develop across much of eastern and central North Dakota this afternoon and evening as a low-pressure system tracks from central South Dakota into northern Minnesota, according to the US National Weather Service Grand Forks.
Forecasters say wind gusts could reach 45 mph or higher, especially in areas west of the Red River Valley, from New Rockford to Valley City and Forman. The gusty winds will continue overnight before gradually easing by early Tuesday morning.
The weather service warns that unsecured outdoor objects could be blown around and that driving may become difficult, particularly for high-profile vehicles on north-south routes.
Residents are encouraged to secure trash bins, lawn furniture, and decorations and to use both hands on the steering wheel when driving through open areas or overpasses.
While skies will remain mostly clear, temperatures will turn cooler tonight behind the wind shift, with lows dipping into the 30s.
