Grand Forks, ND – Residents across Minnesota and North Dakota are experiencing life-threatening cold as an Extreme Cold Warning remains in effect until noon Tuesday. Temperatures in Grand Forks dipped to -16°F early Monday, with wind chill values as low as -50°F across the region.

According to the National Weather Service, central, north-central, northwest, and west-central Minnesota, as well as northeast and southeast North Dakota, are under the warning. In cities like Fargo and Bemidji, wind chills could cause frostbite on exposed skin in as little as five minutes.

The dangerously low temperatures, combined with calm winds in some areas, have led to actual readings between -15°F and -35°F. Grand Forks International Airport recorded a wind chill of -38°F as of 3 a.m. Monday.

Residents are advised to limit outdoor activities, wear layered clothing, and cover exposed skin with hats, gloves, and face masks. Wind chills are expected to moderate slightly by Tuesday afternoon.

Temperatures are forecast to rise later in the week, but slight snow chances remain in the region for Tuesday and Wednesday. Emergency officials urge residents to check on vulnerable individuals and ensure proper heating indoors.
