Grand County, Colo. – Drivers across Grand County faced limited visibility early Thursday as dense fog settled along key mountain routes, making travel hazardous during the morning commute.

According to the National Weather Service in Denver/Boulder, the fog developed around 9 a.m. and is expected to clear by 10 a.m. Travelers on US 40 and US 34 were urged to reduce speed, allow extra travel time, and switch to low beam headlights while navigating through the reduced visibility.

The fog created particular concern for those traveling near Granby and Grand Lake, where stretches of highway are prone to sudden visibility drops. Transportation officials warned that fog can conceal curves, intersections, and wildlife crossings, especially in higher elevations.

Motorists are advised to avoid using high beams, which can reflect off the fog and further limit sight distance. If travel cannot be delayed until after conditions improve, drivers are urged to leave extra space between vehicles and be prepared for sudden stops.

Weather officials say fog should lift by mid-morning, restoring normal travel conditions, but remind residents that similar conditions may return on calm, cool mornings through the fall season.
