Goodland, Kansas – Drivers along Interstate 70 in northwest Kansas and eastern Colorado could face sudden drops in visibility and 65 mph wind gusts by late morning Tuesday, making travel hazardous through the afternoon.

According to the National Weather Service in Goodland, a High Wind Warning remains in effect from 11 a.m. CST to 6 p.m. CST for northwest and west central Kansas, including Sherman, Thomas, Wallace, Logan, Gove, Greeley, and Wichita counties, as well as Yuma, Kit Carson, and Cheyenne counties in Colorado. West winds will sustain at 35 to 45 mph, with gusts reaching 65 mph during the late morning through mid-afternoon hours.

Communities including Goodland, Colby, Oakley, Tribune, Burlington, and Wray will see the strongest winds during peak travel times. Blowing dust may create rapidly changing visibility along I-70, U.S. Highway 83, and U.S. Highway 24, especially in open agricultural areas.

Loose outdoor items could become airborne, and sporadic power outages are possible if tree limbs or lines are damaged. Residents should secure patio furniture, avoid unnecessary travel, and consider limiting outdoor activity due to poor air quality from dust.

Winds may briefly ease before another surge late afternoon, with conditions improving after sunset.
