Golden Meadow, LA – Emergency crews remain on scene southeast of Golden Meadow as authorities continue efforts to stop a natural gas wellhead release, according to the Louisiana State Police.

The Lafourche Parish President Mitch Orgeron said response teams from federal, state, and local agencies are coordinating closely with Cudd Well Control to safely seal the well. The plan calls for cutting a section of the wellhead and inserting a specially designed pipe assembly to pump weighted fluids into the wellbore to halt the gas flow.

Beginning at 2 p.m. Tuesday, November 4, officials established a one-mile safety zone around the site to protect the public. Authorities emphasized that Bayou Lafourche and Highway 1 are not affected. The FAA has also issued a Temporary Flight Restriction over the area, prohibiting drone or aircraft activity during ongoing operations.

To prevent environmental impact, roughly 7,700 feet of containment boom have been deployed in nearby marshes. Four fixed air-monitoring stations and additional mobile units are continuously measuring air quality around the Golden Meadow community.

The Unified Command—including the U.S. Coast Guard, Castex Energy Inc., Louisiana Oil Spill Coordinator’s Office, and multiple state agencies—continues to oversee containment, safety, and environmental monitoring until the well is secured.

Officials say updates will be shared as new information becomes available.
