Glen Ellyn, Ill. — At approximately 9:06 a.m. on Thursday, June 26, the Glen Ellyn Volunteer Fire Department was dispatched for a structure fire. The call was for 775 Pershing Avenue and reported a closet fire. The caller said six people in the unit had already evacuated.

Arriving on the scene, crews noted a fire in the rear of the two-story, 16-unit residential building. Firefighters used three home lines to put the fire under control. They extended a fire ladder and two second floor occupants were able to evacuate. Approximately 20 occupants total from the building were displaced. The second-story evacuees were transported to Good Samaritan Hospital for minor injuries. Other occupants and three police officers were evaluated on the scene for smoke inhalation. They were released by medics.

One of the units sustained significant fire damage. Three other units were affected by minor smoke and water damage. The cause of the fire is still under investigation, the Glen Ellyn Volunteer Fire Department said in the press release. The department was aided by Lombard, York Center, Lisle Woodridge, Villa Park, Glenside and Downers Grove departments.
