Glasgow, MT – Drivers along Montana Highway 5 could encounter slick, snow-covered roads within the next few hours as snowfall continues through mid-morning Monday.
According to the National Weather Service in Glasgow, a Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect until 10 a.m., with up to 2 inches of snow expected near the Canadian border. The most impacted areas include Daniels, Sheridan, and northern Valley counties, where steady light snow is creating icy patches on untreated roads.
Communities such as Scobey, Plentywood, and Opheim are seeing the greatest travel concerns early Monday, with reduced traction and visibility during the morning commute. Secondary roads and rural highways remain especially vulnerable to ice buildup.
Beyond travel, ranchers across northeast Montana should monitor newborn livestock, as cold, wet conditions increase stress risks for animals exposed to the elements.
Motorists are urged to slow down, increase following distance, and avoid sudden braking. Keeping emergency kits in vehicles is recommended during winter travel events.
Conditions are expected to gradually improve after 10 a.m., though additional advisories could be issued if snow lingers near the border.
