Glasgow, Montana – Strong winds are expected to develop across parts of northeast Montana this weekend, with gusts potentially reaching up to 60 mph in some areas.

According to the National Weather Service in Glasgow, a High Wind Watch has been issued for southwest Phillips County, including the community of Zortman, from Saturday evening through Sunday evening.

Forecasters say winds will strengthen out of the west at 25 to 40 mph, with gusts up to 60 mph possible as the system moves through the region.

Communities including Glasgow, Malta, Zortman, and surrounding areas of Phillips County could experience gusty conditions during the weekend.

Drivers traveling along major routes such as U.S. Highway 191 and other north–south roadways may encounter strong crosswinds, which could make travel difficult, especially for high-profile vehicles such as trucks, trailers, and RVs.

Meteorologists warn that periods of the strongest winds are expected late Saturday night through Sunday, when gusts could peak across parts of northeast Montana.

Blowing dust and reduced visibility may also occur in open areas if winds become strong enough.

Residents are encouraged to secure loose outdoor objects, including trash cans, patio furniture, and other lightweight items that could be blown around by strong winds.

Those planning to travel this weekend should check road conditions and remain alert for sudden gusts, particularly along exposed highways and rural routes.

The High Wind Watch means conditions are favorable for dangerous winds to develop, and additional updates or warnings may be issued as the forecast becomes clearer.
