Glasgow, Montana – Accumulating snow of 1 to 4 inches is expected across northeast Montana beginning 8 a.m. Friday, with up to 8 inches possible in parts of southwest Phillips County, impacting travel along US-2 through 11 a.m. Saturday.

A Winter Storm Warning is in effect for southwest Phillips County, including areas near Zortman, where heavier snowfall totals between 4 and 8 inches are forecast. Surrounding counties — including Valley, Garfield, McCone, Petroleum, Dawson, Prairie and Wibaux — are under a Winter Weather Advisory for lighter but still impactful accumulations.

Snow will begin Friday morning and become steadier into Friday night before gradually tapering off Saturday morning. The heaviest snowfall rates are expected overnight, when reduced visibility and snow-covered roads could create hazardous driving conditions.

Motorists traveling along US-2, Highway 191 and MT-24 should prepare for slick highways, drifting snow and periods of low visibility. Rural roads may become especially difficult to navigate late Friday night. Officials advise allowing extra travel time and carrying winter survival supplies if traveling long distances.

In addition to travel impacts, ranchers and livestock producers should prepare for stress on newborn animals as colder temperatures and accumulating snow combine.

Road conditions are expected to gradually improve later Saturday as snowfall diminishes. However, lingering slick spots may persist into the weekend.

Residents across northeast Montana are encouraged to monitor updated forecasts and check road reports before traveling, particularly during the overnight hours when conditions are expected to be at their worst.
