Glasgow, Montana – A High Wind Warning has been issued for the Glasgow area and Phillips County for Monday and Monday night, as strong west winds are expected to create hazardous travel conditions and increase fire danger across the region.

According to the National Weather Service office in Glasgow, winds will strengthen through the day Monday, with sustained west winds of 25 to 40 mph and gusts reaching up to 60 mph at times. The strongest winds are expected during the afternoon and evening hours, continuing into Monday night.

These winds are forecast to produce strong crosswinds on north-south highways, including U.S. Highway 191, making travel difficult, especially for high-profile vehicles such as semi-trucks, trailers, and RVs. Drivers are urged to use extra caution and be prepared for sudden gusts.

The National Weather Service warns that strong winds may also lead to blowing debris and could make it difficult to control vehicles on open roads. Residents are advised to secure loose outdoor items, including trash cans, lawn furniture, and farm equipment, ahead of the strongest winds.

In addition to travel impacts, elevated fire danger is expected on Monday, particularly in areas with bare or dormant ground. Gusty winds combined with dry fuels can allow fires to spread rapidly if ignited. Outdoor burning is strongly discouraged during the warning period.

While no widespread power outages are currently anticipated, isolated issues are possible if winds damage power lines or infrastructure.

Conditions are expected to gradually improve late Monday night into early Tuesday as winds subside.

Residents of the Glasgow area are encouraged to monitor updated forecasts and any additional statements at weather.gov/ggw as conditions evolve.
