Glasgow, MT – Residents across eastern Montana should prepare for a very windy and dry Sunday, with the National Weather Service in Glasgow issuing multiple warnings for hazardous conditions.
Winds are expected to increase late Saturday night, peaking Sunday afternoon at 25 to 40 mph, with gusts up to 60 mph possible in southwestern Phillips County. A High Wind Warning is in effect from late tonight through Sunday afternoon for that area.
In addition, a Red Flag Warning has been issued for Petroleum and Garfield counties, including the Charles M. Russell National Wildlife Refuge, where minimum humidity levels may drop to around 20%. These dry and windy conditions raise the risk of rapid fire spread, and residents are urged to avoid outdoor burning or activities that could spark flames.
Waves on Fort Peck Lake could also reach up to 6 feet, creating dangerous boating conditions.
Officials recommend securing outdoor objects, delaying travel with high-profile vehicles, and staying alert for fire updates through the weekend.
