Glasgow, Montana – An Arctic air mass spilling into northeast Montana will bring dangerously cold wind chills as low as −25° to −30°F tonight into Saturday morning, prompting a Cold Weather Advisory, according to the National Weather Service in Glasgow.
The advisory is in effect from 8 p.m. Friday through 10 a.m. Saturday for Valley County and surrounding areas, with the coldest conditions expected closer to the Canadian border and North Dakota line. Gusty winds combined with plunging temperatures will drive wind chills well below zero, creating hazardous conditions for anyone outdoors.
The National Weather Service warned that frostbite can occur on exposed skin in as little as 10 minutes under these conditions. Residents are urged to limit time outdoors, wear layered winter clothing, and ensure all exposed skin is covered. Checking on elderly neighbors, bringing pets indoors, and preparing vehicles with emergency kits are strongly recommended.
Overnight lows are expected to fall sharply, with only a modest improvement by late Saturday morning as winds ease. Even then, temperatures will remain well below seasonal averages.
No winter precipitation is expected with this advisory, but the cold alone poses significant risk. Officials also advise ensuring carbon monoxide detectors are working properly as heating systems run continuously.
Residents across the Glasgow area should monitor updates and take immediate precautions as the cold sets in tonight.
