Dangerous winter weather continues across northeast Montana as bitter cold temperatures and blizzard conditions impact the region, according to the National Weather Service in Glasgow. Residents are facing a combination of extreme wind chills, strong winds, blowing snow, and hazardous travel conditions early this morning.

A Cold Weather Advisory remains in effect until 10 a.m., with north to northwest winds driving wind chill values between minus 15 and minus 35 degrees Fahrenheit. These dangerously cold conditions pose a serious risk of frostbite on exposed skin in a matter of minutes. Residents are strongly encouraged to limit time outdoors, dress in layers, cover all exposed skin, and ensure pets are brought indoors. Vehicles should be stocked with emergency supplies, including warm blankets and jumper cables, in case of unexpected travel delays.

At the same time, a Blizzard Warning remains in effect along and east of Montana Highway 13 until 6 a.m. Wind gusts up to 60 miles per hour have produced whiteout conditions, significantly reducing visibility and making travel extremely dangerous. Snow drifts continue to impact roadways, and some highways remain closed due to the severity of the conditions. Although winds are expected to gradually diminish later this morning, hazardous driving conditions may persist even after snowfall tapers off.

Officials emphasize that nighttime and early morning hazards can be nearly impossible to see, especially where drifting snow obscures road edges and vehicles. Travel is strongly discouraged until conditions improve and road crews are able to safely clear affected areas.

Residents across northeast Montana are urged to monitor local weather updates, heed all warnings and advisories, and avoid unnecessary travel until the blizzard and extreme cold subside. Staying indoors and prepared remains the safest option as this dangerous winter storm moves through the region.
