Atlanta, Georgia – A wedge of cooler air settling in the lee of the Appalachians will bring Georgia a break from the heat this weekend, dropping daytime highs into the 70s and low 80s and ushering in persistent cloud cover and scattered rain showers.
According to the National Weather Service in Peachtree City, a modified wedge front will develop by Saturday, driven by high pressure near the Ohio Valley and a coastal low off the Carolinas. This setup will funnel cooler, moist air into northern and central Georgia through at least Monday.
Metro Atlanta, Gainesville, Athens, and areas along I-85 can expect highs in the upper 70s to low 80s with nighttime lows dipping into the 60s. Sunday and Monday may bring the steadiest cloud cover and rain chances, with Monday looking especially damp. Travel delays or minor flooding could occur in areas prone to poor drainage.
Residents are advised to monitor local forecasts, keep rain gear handy, and consider delaying outdoor plans. The wedge pattern could also increase demand on roadways during wet commutes, especially around Atlanta and Macon.
Cooler-than-normal conditions are expected to linger through Tuesday, with afternoon storms returning midweek. More updates will follow as the pattern evolves.
