ATLANTA, Ga. – Atlanta’s mild start to the week will give way to scattered thunderstorms by midweek, bringing a chance of lightning and brief downpours across metro areas through Thursday morning. After a mostly cloudy Monday and a warm Tuesday with highs near 83°F, storm activity is expected to increase by Wednesday afternoon.

According to the National Weather Service in Peachtree City, there’s a 30 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms beginning Wednesday and lasting through early Thursday. Winds will shift from the southeast to northwest at around 5 to 10 mph as the front passes, keeping humidity levels high and temperatures steady in the low 80s.

Localized rainfall could slow evening commutes along I-75 and I-285, with slick pavement and reduced visibility expected in heavier downpours. Residents should keep outdoor plans flexible and secure outdoor furniture ahead of any strong gusts or lightning activity.

The rest of the week looks calmer, with partly sunny skies returning by Friday and weekend highs climbing back toward the mid-70s. More unsettled weather could develop early next week as another moisture system moves in from the Gulf.
