ATLANTA, Ga. – North Georgia is starting the week under scorching sunshine, with Atlanta temperatures climbing into the mid-90s and heat index values pushing close to 100 through Monday afternoon. Calm winds will offer little relief before storm chances build into the region Tuesday.
According to the National Weather Service in Peachtree City, Monday will remain mostly clear and hot, with a high near 95 and humid conditions peaking by late afternoon. By Tuesday, a 30 percent chance of thunderstorms develops after 2 p.m., likely impacting evening commuters across Atlanta, Decatur, and the I-285 corridor.
Wednesday and Thursday bring additional rounds of storms, with rain chances ranging from 20 to 40 percent. Areas south of downtown Atlanta, including East Point and College Park, could see the heaviest downpours during the late afternoon hours. Gusty winds and lightning may accompany stronger cells.
Residents are urged to stay hydrated in the heat, limit outdoor activity during peak afternoon hours, and use caution on roadways if thunderstorms develop. Localized flooding is possible in low-lying spots if rain lingers midweek.
The National Weather Service says storm chances remain elevated through Saturday, with more widespread showers expected to close out the week.
