Atlanta, GA – Georgia residents should brace for hazardous weather, including dense fog, black ice, and potential freezing rain. The National Weather Service (NWS) in Peachtree City issued a warning early Sunday morning detailing expected conditions.
According to the NWS, patchy dense fog is reducing visibility across northern Georgia and is likely to persist until 10 a.m. Sunday. Drivers are urged to use caution as black ice may form on roads due to refreezing snow and ice melt from recent precipitation. These slick spots are particularly dangerous in shaded areas and on bridges.
The forecast also highlights a small chance of patchy freezing rain in west-central Georgia between 2 a.m. and 10 a.m. Monday. While accumulations are predicted to remain light—up to 0.03 inches—drivers should prepare for hazardous travel conditions during the morning commute.
Spotters are encouraged to report snow totals or ice damage via the NWS website. Local authorities urge residents to monitor weather updates and adjust travel plans as needed.
Emergency services recommend reducing driving speeds, increasing following distances, and avoiding sudden braking in affected areas. Pedestrians are also advised to watch for slippery sidewalks and walkways.
Georgia’s weather conditions are expected to improve by Monday afternoon, but residents should remain vigilant for updates.
