ATLANTA, Ga. – Families planning outdoor activities in Atlanta this Sunday may need to change plans as unhealthy air returns. Temperatures will climb into the upper 80s, but a Code Orange Air Quality Alert poses the bigger concern.

According to the Georgia Department of Natural Resources, ozone levels will reach unhealthy ranges for sensitive groups on Sunday, September 14. Children, older adults, and those with asthma or heart conditions should avoid prolonged outdoor activity, especially during late afternoon and evening hours when ozone peaks. The National Weather Service in Peachtree City emphasized that limiting exertion outdoors can reduce health risks.

Drivers along I-75, I-85, and the Downtown Connector could encounter hazy skies, reducing visibility during peak travel hours. Public health officials recommend keeping windows closed and using air conditioning instead of fresh air ventilation. Parents are advised to limit children’s outdoor playtime, and those with respiratory issues should carry medications as a precaution.

Despite the air quality concerns, the weather pattern remains stable. Sunshine will dominate Sunday through midweek, with high temperatures in the upper 80s and lows in the mid-60s. Light northeast winds will provide minimal relief from lingering ozone levels.

The air quality may improve slightly by midweek, but another warm stretch will keep ozone concerns elevated through at least Wednesday. Additional alerts are possible if conditions persist.
