Atlanta, Georgia – A surge of summer heat and afternoon thunderstorms will target metro Atlanta on Monday, June 30, setting the stage for a stormy start to the holiday week.

According to the National Weather Service, a 70% chance of thunderstorms develops after 2 p.m. Monday, with showers becoming likely into the evening. While much of the day starts mostly sunny with a high near 89°F, clouds and downpours will move in quickly. Storms could slow traffic during the evening commute, especially along I-75, I-285, and surface roads through Fulton and DeKalb counties.

Localized flooding, lightning, and strong wind gusts may accompany the storms. Residents should charge devices, avoid driving through water-covered roads, and stay weather-aware Monday evening.

Tuesday continues the trend with an 80% chance of storms developing after 11 a.m., and another round expected Tuesday night. Wet conditions could linger into the 4th of July, making picnic and fireworks plans uncertain.
