Atlanta, GA – Tropical Depression Nine is forecast to strengthen into Tropical Storm Imelda today, with the system expected to influence weather across Georgia early this week.

According to the National Weather Service in Peachtree City, the storm will move east of Florida before shifting away from the Southeast U.S. coast by midweek. While Georgia is not in the direct path, forecasters say the system will bring increased cloud cover and scattered rain showers on Monday and Tuesday, along with breezy easterly winds.

The latest advisory, issued Sunday morning, increased confidence that North and Central Georgia will experience only minimal impacts. Temperatures on Sunday are expected to remain warm and dry, with highs in the mid to upper 80s before showers arrive.

By Monday, Imelda’s influence could bring isolated rainfall across parts of Georgia, with breezy conditions likely to continue throughout the week. Officials emphasized that while the storm’s center will remain offshore, its wide wind field may still affect regional weather.

“Residents and visitors should stay tuned for updates,” the National Weather Service advised, noting that tropical systems can shift unexpectedly.
