Georgia – A hard chill settles across north and central Georgia this morning, frosting rooftops and turning breath into fog under early light. The air feels sharp now, but attention is already turning ahead. Winter weather may be lining up just in time for the weekend.

According to the National Weather Service in Peachtree City, hazardous weather potential increases Friday night into Saturday night across Georgia. Snow is anticipated mainly in eastern parts of the state, though there is a one-in-three chance that accumulating snow could reach the Atlanta metro. Very cold temperatures and hazardous wind chills are expected through the weekend and into early next week.

Today stays dry with sunshine, but cold holds firm. Highs reach the mid-40s before dropping quickly after sunset. By Friday, clouds increase and a slight chance of rain develops during the afternoon. That rain could mix with snow Friday night as colder air pushes in, especially north and east of Atlanta.

Saturday brings the best chance for flakes. Current guidance shows a 30 percent chance of snow, mainly before midday. Even light snow could cause problems as temperatures struggle near freezing. Flash freezing is a concern after any daytime melting, leaving bridges, overpasses, and shaded roads slick. Drivers along I-75, I-85, and I-285 should plan extra time.

By Sunday, skies clear but cold lingers. Morning lows dip into the teens, and untreated roads may remain icy early. Conditions gradually improve into early next week as precipitation chances drop and temperatures slowly rebound.
