Atlanta, Georgia – Strong thunderstorms could disrupt plans across north and central Georgia on Sunday, with the greatest threat coming after 2 p.m. in the Atlanta metro area.
According to the National Weather Service in Peachtree City, isolated storms will build in intensity Sunday afternoon, producing 40-50 mph winds, small hail, and brief localized flooding. Travel along I-285 and surface roads like Memorial Drive and Peachtree Street could become hazardous during downpours.
Scattered thunderstorms will continue daily through Wednesday. Monday and Tuesday also bring a heightened risk of stronger storms, particularly during the late afternoon and evening. While not all areas will see severe weather, any storm that develops could be dangerous — especially in heat-weary neighborhoods with limited shade or drainage.
Prepare now: charge electronics, monitor forecasts, and avoid driving during intense rain bands. Residents with outdoor plans — including early 4th of July celebrations — should stay flexible.
Looking ahead, Wednesday and Thursday bring another round of showers and storms, especially between 2 and 7 p.m. on both days. Independence Day itself looks drier, but pop-up storms can’t be ruled out.
