Atlanta, Georgia – Thunderstorms and triple-digit heat index values are poised to slam into metro Atlanta by Monday afternoon, sparking safety concerns across the region.
According to the National Weather Service, Monday, July 21 will bring a 30% chance of afternoon and evening thunderstorms, especially after 2 p.m., as temperatures climb to a high near 94°F. Heat index values may reach 100°F. Winds from the northwest could gust up to 15 mph, bringing brief relief but also the potential to spread storms quickly across I-285 and downtown Atlanta.
Localized downpours and brief power outages are possible. If thunder roars, head indoors—lightning could strike well ahead of storms. Residents are urged to limit outdoor activity during peak heat and charge devices ahead of potential outages. Monday night holds a continued 30% chance of storms before skies begin to clear, with lows near 76°F.
Tuesday offers little reprieve. Sunshine will push highs to 95°F before another round of storms arrives by evening. Rain chances linger at 50% through Tuesday night, dropping slightly to 30% Wednesday and Thursday, with highs remaining in the 89°F–93°F range.
Conditions may briefly improve Friday before another round of scattered storms moves in for the weekend. Expect above-normal temperatures and unsettled skies through Saturday.
