Atlanta, GA – Thunderstorms could pop up across Georgia beginning Saturday afternoon, bringing brief downpours and lightning risks to metro Atlanta and nearby counties.

According to the National Weather Service, a 20 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms develops after 2 p.m. Saturday, especially in the Atlanta metro. The day will start off mostly sunny with a high near 92°F, but isolated storms could slow traffic on I-75, I-85, and I-20 by late afternoon. Winds from the northeast at 5 mph will offer minimal relief from the humidity.

Drivers and outdoor planners should stay weather-aware, especially during peak heat hours between 2 and 6 p.m. While not all areas will see rain, storms that do form may bring gusty winds and lightning. Keep devices charged and consider flexible indoor plans for the afternoon.

Saturday night will be mostly clear with a low around 72°F, setting the stage for a hotter Sunday.
