Atlanta, GA – A cold front is expected to move through Georgia on Sunday, bringing the state’s best chance at measurable rain this week, according to the US National Weather Service in Peachtree City. Forecasters say rainfall totals could range from 0.5 to 1 inch north of I-20 and between 0.25 and 0.5 inches to the south.

According to the National Weather Service, while organized severe weather is not expected, a few thunderstorms could become strong enough to produce gusty winds and frequent lightning. The highest rainfall amounts are expected in portions of west and north Georgia.

The front will move quickly across the region, and once it passes, forecasters say rain chances will drop significantly, with minimal precipitation likely until late next weekend. Sunday’s rainfall is not expected to alleviate ongoing dry conditions that have persisted across much of the state.

Residents planning outdoor activities are encouraged to monitor weather updates and prepare for brief downpours and possible thunder Sunday afternoon and evening.
