Georgia – Dry air and a light breeze are creating high fire danger conditions across Peachtree City and much of north and central Georgia today. By late morning, humidity levels are dropping quickly, and dormant winter grasses can ignite fast with just a small spark. Outdoor burning could spread in minutes under these February conditions.

According to the National Weather Service in Peachtree City, relative humidity will fall to 25 percent or lower for four or more hours this afternoon. East to northeast winds between 5 and 10 mph will support rapid fire growth where fuels are dry. A Special Weather Statement remains in effect through the evening.

Counties across north and central Georgia, including Fulton, DeKalb, Cobb, Fayette and surrounding areas, face the greatest concern. Residents should avoid outdoor burning and check with local authorities before lighting debris piles. Even grilling requires caution. Winds may appear light, but fine fuels can still carry flames.

Temperatures climb to around 60 degrees today under sunny skies. That warmth, combined with low humidity, keeps vegetation dry. Tonight turns mostly clear with lows near 39 degrees, limiting moisture recovery before Saturday.

Saturday stays partly sunny with highs near 62 degrees. Showers arrive late Saturday night, then rain becomes likely Sunday with a 100 percent chance and highs near 62 degrees. Sunday night continues wet, with an 80 percent chance of rain before tapering.

Washington’s Birthday looks partly sunny and milder near 65 degrees. A broader warming trend builds into midweek, with highs pushing into the upper 60s and lower 70s by Wednesday and Thursday — early spring vibes for President’s Day Week.
